just spoke w/ Hengehold about the truck.

official reservations are not til June 1, but I will be keeping in touch prior.

costs will be similar - expect about $2K w/ gas, insurance, extra days etc.

maybe a 20' truck this year? we've previously used a 15'. (MORE TRUCK POWER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!)

First I MUST mention that there are some good warm up action party before the NYE parties at Mighty on the 30
.....Just remember the liver is evil and must be punished so you better train your liver right starting the night before NYE!
So I'll see all the real players at Mighty on Friday the 30th
(Matt maybe you should think twice B-4 going to Mighty on the night before....I wouldn't want you to miss New Years Eve

Cable Car Christmas Caroling - December 11

I would say holiday caroling but I'm not that PC. But it is my friend Kelly's gig and she is jewish so I'm sure that all are welcome. This is an event to benefit the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention. Besides grief counseling they also have a 24-hour telephone hotline for depressed elders. So throughout the year they sponsor different events to cheer up them old folks and this is one of them.
It is sure to be THE feel good event of the holiday season. And we can probably sneak some liquor on board.

August III at Fluid this Friday night

August III (Birds of Playadise) is spinning at the dual action holiday party for the American Planning Association and the Association of Environmental Professionals this Friday evening at Fluid "ultra" lounge. I don't know what the "ultra" refers to, but they have a *great* sound system, and David will be rockin' their sociological booties and minds.

I'm working the door from 8:15 to 9 (in a badass way, fo' sure), so you need to get there around then to avoid cover, and he'll be spinning until about 9:30.

Fior d' Italia deal of the century *free wine

I've got a table RSVPed for 10 at Fior d' Italia from 2-5pm
that's for free drinks & pu pu's (i can't spell hors d'erves) and then if you wish you can get a meal at prices of 100 years ago (explaination for the whippersnappers..real cheap).
This is a classy, expensive ristorante that I can't normally afford but with prices from 100 years ago (my youth) I can get the proper feed bag on.

I want to take a moment and thank all my birdies buds for allowing me to grow toward my real potential as a human being. Without you people I never could have experienced the positive growth that all of you have nurtured in me over this last two years....so, just in case the "Big Blue Truck"* takes me out tomorrow, I want you all to know what an extroidnarory great influence each and everyone of you have had on me during these past two years! I have had an incredibly wonderful time being with you guys and from the bottom of my heart I want to thank all of you.

P.S. I have no plans to exit anytime soon but I'm aware of the fact that I'm not able to control everything and some things are just up to destiny.

P.S.Ps. I believe I ride a horse called Destiny and nothing in the world can stop me in my quest to fulfill my role on the great stage of life...

Good Luck and again thank you all for everything you have done for me. I'm one luck son 'o bitch to have such fine friends as you guy & gals!

The Banana Phone dancers from the Deep End camp will be performing on the main stage at SF Decompression. We are sooo excited to bring our highly polished, extremely professional, fab-tab-ulously regal performance to the masses, outside of the safe confines of the Deep End on the playa.

Staff - totally nice and fun and creative. Do they really need 17 layers of people to get to your party inside, though? Kind of funny.
Overall effect - OVERKILL with the I am so Miami Fabulous in a BIIIIG WAY! Um, do I require plastic surgery to breathe with in a block of your precious establishment? Jeez...
Food - yum!
Drinks - eh, mine are better... :-)
Love Parade staff - AWESOME!
Vision - good, art blended with classy = very nice.

You should check it out, it's very nice. But be prepared for those *I like to be seen* um, "people". The staff rocks and is all about making you feel comfortable, once you get inside.

Gwen and I are going to Chabot Space and Science Center to see the Sonic Vision show @ 9;15 pm. This is next generation to those lazer light shows you went to as a kid; only now their done with about 20 high res video projectors with an eclectic mix of music!

So, I am pleased to say that I think we are in the clear as far as house funds go. I have one expense I wanted to run by all of you... so as many of you know the truck was towed on Monday night when it was parked in our neighborhood. David had noticed the street cleaning sign for 9AM but hadn't noticed another sign that was for 7-9AM. The bill was $310 for ticket & towing. I vote for paying for it out of camp funds. I know that this ticket could have been avoided BUT ask yourself - where was I at midnight on Monday night? I was snug in my bed - clean & relatively well-rested. David and the truck crew and just made it back to the city after two days of tear down and driving... needless to say, exhausted. I think its safe to say that most of you were in my situation on Monday night - snug in bed.

With that monolouge out of the way - any objections?

If not here is what my totals are for what I owe everyone, if I have forgotten anyone, please let me know.

Tim = $1985
David = $577
Jeff = $20
Doug = $35
Rahima (reimburse camp funds) = $100

That leaves us with funds of $97. Woah - close one!

Jill, Shawn, David, and I bought the poloroid film, but if the three of you are OK with it, I am fine with that being my camp donation.

With the Burn already two weeks behind us, a rested body & mind, and memories to last a lifetime - I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this year so incredibly fantastic.

Last year, in my lovefest email, I used an analogy of flocking birds (I will spare you this year); and I liked Kim's "wind beneath our wings" analogy about David. I love the cheese! This year, after seeing the "March of the Penquins" film, I'd like to use the Penquin analogy...

Did you know that in the dead of winter, emperor penquins clump together in huge, huddled masses? They take turns moving to the inside of the group, where they’re protected from the icy cold temperatures and wind. Once they’ve had a chance to warm up, they take their turns back on the circle’s edges, giving fellow penguins time in the warmer center.

Thank you all for the huddling and for letting me take my turn at the inside of the circle when I needed it. Us flightless birds (just like Penquins) really made MAGIC happen this year for not only ourselves, but for so, so, so many others.

Did you also know that baby penquins hatch when the weather has warmed somewhat and the ice begins to break up - bringing open waters closer to the nesting sites. At that very point, the chicks have reached their independence — old enough to take to the seas, fish for their own food, and eventually take care of other hatching chicks.

Many of you virgin Birds hatched remarkable early this year and took to your independence and nurturing of others instantly (you amazed me!). Thank you, thank you, thank you...

It seemed to me that all of us hatched or re-hatched at some point this year, which was beautiful to experience.

Dry your eyes now... I couldn't help myself. =) I just couldn't say THANK YOU without any cheese.

Burning Bear

Hi Birds,

I had one hell of an experience on the Playa this year and I thank each of you tweeters for that! On my last day there was a whirlwind of festivities in my head.... one of which was the Burning Bear (small stuffed bear) I was given for my kitties and a Burning Bear notepad with pen and dear friends address from CO in it. This very pad is what I wrote my Burn on and then left somewhere in the Zen garden/ couch area. I think I was napping with the bear somewhere else.

If anyone has seen these items, please let me know and how I can get them. Betty, thank you for taking care of the hoola hoop and parasol.... Garden tear down peeps, please let me know where my wood plates can be located (small- med- large).

Those gone swimming.... have fun!

OK, here’s the update to the Community Booze List… We’ve got plenty of vodka, and I think we’re OK on wine and beer and tequila. What we really need is some more diversity in liquor and a bunch more mixers. Remember, mixers go quickly b/c sometimes people will just have a glass of OJ or will make a weak cocktail (yeah, I don’t get it either, but I’ve heard it’s true.) Meeting Notes 'n Stuff...

I wrote a couple notes down at the meeting (before, during and after three glasses of wine), and just to be safe I wanted to confirm that all this was happening...

1) Grills - Doug is bringing his for the beginning of the week and Rob is bringing his for the end of the week.

2) Early Bird Meal - I believe David was organizing this one?

3) Camp Notes - Barb is bringing her easel and I'm buying the paper so we can leave notes or have friends who come by leave notes. (Barb, do I just get standard size paper?)

4) Kitchen - Betty and Jeff are bringing communal kitchen pots and pans.

5) Dish Washing - Does anyone have THREE LARGE bins to donate to the kitchen? One is for rinsing, one is for bleach/cleaner, and the last is to rinse again (I think...). We'll also need the soap/bleach.

6) Coleman stoves - Shawn and I are getting one, and I remember someone else saying they had one? This should be enough, right?

7) Gray Water - We talked about kitchen cleaning and gray water... Do we have someone organizing the Evap Pool and the connections from the shower (and kitchen bins if we decide to do that again)?

8) Lounge - are we good on futons, pillows, and sheets to cover the futons?

9) FRIDAY - Truck will be picked up early and start getting loaded in Marin at 10 a.m. Loading in SF at David & Tracy's will start around 3ish. Please check in with David (or me... I'll be checking in with him) to find out when the truck will get to SF, so whoever is available to load on Friday can get going as early as possible! For the rest of you who work 9-5ers, please check in when you get off work... I'm sure we'll still need help!

10) Saturday - For those of us going to the playa Saturday, I believe we agreed 4-8 will be the main set up time. That will give people time to set up their own stuff before/after camp set up, so we can devote those hours to making our camp HOME!! Then we can play... :D

OK, those are my random thoughts for the night...

Clean up on Tuesday

Not sure if we did this yet, but can we go over the clean up plan for Tuesday again? It's just that I keep hearing peoples' plans to get away for awhile after the event and I'm getting a little nervous.

Do we know who's doing what as far as helping to unload the truck, going to the dump, cleaning the truck, and returning the truck?

There's never enough people to unload. It would great to have about four people at the dump, four to help clean, and two to return the truck.

Whew! We're running it pretty close here... The "estimated future expenses" include:

- $2300 Moving truck (including gas, mileage, insurance, taxes)
- $250 Booze for Art Car Service Center
- $95 Fee at the dump for after BM
- $30 Cost to wash the truck at a "help yourself" car wash

Also, Michelle and her boyfriend might possibly join us too which would be an extra $200.

playa info needs a little help

Chances are that if you've been to burning man, you've used playa info once or twice.

playa info is also known as "the in-fo-ma-tion cen-teeeeer"

they're short a few shifts and seeking people to fill them.

the easiest (recommended) thing is the Directory. All you do is help the general public put stuff in/find things in the computer database. It's an easy but effective way to help people, and to *meet people* - if you know what I mean.

The Oracle shifts are for experienced burners, answering questions about where's this and that, latest info, etc.

Oh, yeah, best way to estimate what you think you'll need,
length-wise, is just use some lamp cord or even string to wrap around
the curly edges and measure.

Anyone still need a TuTu??

I went to CostumeParty yesterday and they have a wide selection of everything including TuTus. I recoment the ones with the elastic, that way even when your old and fat you can still wear it.

Camp Glass

Hey birds - yesterday at the meeting Jeff & I said there was a glass recycle camp and it seemed no one else was aware of it and seemed sketched about bring glass out. Here's what I got off of the BM site . . . . .

Camp Glass
The glass equivalent of Recycle Camp. Have you ever noticed how the only non-crap beers available in aluminum cans are Corona and Heineken? Gets kind of old having to spoil the time of your life with cans of Bud Light, all in the name of MOOP avoidance. We're the solution! Drop off your empty glass bottles (not just beer, but liquor too) at Camp Glass and we will wash them, strip labels, sort them, crush them, and melt them into Burning-Man-shaped glass necklaces for you and your friends to wear. Depending on how much $$$ we have, we may also have the glorious minimalist strains of composer Philip Glass cranked during your visit.

we really need a couple of futons

heyas,

so we're continuing to do very well with prep, which is good b/c it all goes down in just over three weeks.

all the infrastructure is either figured out or almost figured out, except for one thing....

futons.

Futons are placed on our carpet... in the shade, covered with a fitted sheet, and make a most excellent place to chill, day and night.

We have 1 1/2 now, but we NEED at least 2 MORE.

They're harder to find at this late date, we're asking the following of everyone...

Please (!) make every effort to acquire those last two futons as soon as possible. Check craigslist (free stuff, moving sales) or just keep your eyes open if you see a (clean-ish) futon as you drive down the street. They can be scrunched up fairly well, so you may not neccessarily even need a truck.

(Hey... why not just *carry* 'em over to David and Tracy's?!)
